Job title: Wills & Probate Fee Earner
Reporting to: Head of Department
Job Purpose
To run caseload of Estate Administration, Probate and Trust administration cases which may include:
- Communication with clients and third parties by telephone, e-mail, video call and post.
- Providing legal advice.
- Identifying upselling / cross selling opportunities.
- Legal research.
- Obtaining the file after client care pack is received and running to conclusion.
- Legal drafting including deeds of variation, affidavits, legal statements and estate accounts.
- Identifying entitlement to Grants and assessing will validity.
- Advising clients on Inheritance tax, and filing Inheritance Tax Returns.
- Identification of liability for income tax and Capital Gains tax.
- CREDAS Identification checks.
- Maintaining organised and well-maintained files.
- Assist other members of the immediate and wider department as required.
- Review of files with solicitors, senior team members and head of department with technical issues.
- Report to head of department with any complaints, conflict of interest or high risk matters.
- Recording time and preparing bills.
- Delegating to team admin assistants to progress matters.
- Working with paralegals across the whole team in relation to Wills and LPAs.

The job holder will be expected to conduct and manage all aspects of their caseload, including taking appropriate decisions involving the exercise of judgment, subject to supervision.
The level of supervision required will be in accordance with the agreed wills & probate system together with further assistance in relation to key decisions on cases.
The job holder will require a sound theoretical knowledge of the work and an ability to conduct cases from beginning to end.
The job holder will play an important role in the team in helping to achieve the team's objectives.
The ability to communicate clearly and effectively is essential.
This job is self-sufficient. The job holder will produce all their own work on the PC and will have little assistance from administrative and secretarial staff. Proficiency in using the equipment provided and operating the firms systems to a high standard is required
