Property Lawyer
Job title: Property Lawyer - Transactional
Reporting to: Head of Department
Supervisory responsibility: Oversight of Paralegal and Legal Assistant
Job Purpose
To manage a caseload up to 100 files, mainly conveyancing of residential properties of all types. This may include:
- Handling transactional conveyancing matters including sale freehold, leasehold and commonhold properties of all types. Where required, re-mortgages, equity release and transfer of equity matters.
- Duties include but are not limited to: drafting reports, raising and replying to enquiries, carrying out investigation of title, conducting searches, applying for mortgage funds, preparing completion documents and any other step in the transactions process up to and including completion.
- Assist other members of the immediate and wider department as required.
The job holder will be expected to conduct and manage all aspects of his/her caseload, including taking appropriate decisions involving the exercise of judgment, subject to supervision.
The level of supervision required will be in accordance with the agreed conveyancing system together with further assistance in relation to key decisions on cases.
The job holder will require a sound theoretical knowledge of the work and an ability to conduct cases from beginning to end.
The job holder will play an important role in the team in helping to achieve the team's objectives.
The ability to communicate clearly and effectively is essential.
This job is self-sufficient. The job holder will produce all his/her own work on the PC and will have little if any assistance from administrative and secretarial staff. Proficiency in using the equipment provided and operating the firms systems to a high standard is required
REPRESENTATIVE ACTIVITIES
- Dealing with incoming post
- Drafting reports
- Responding to client and third-party enquiries
- Sending out correspondence
- Dealing with and Processing mortgages including the request for funds
- Preparation of completion statements
- Dealing with initial instructions
- Processing client ID checks
- Initial searches
- Some post completion matters such as SDLT returns, HMLR/HMRC requirements, sending deeds to lenders
- Closing files on case management system
- Overseeing and delegating work to Paralegal and Assistant
- Other general clerical duties as required
